Project Overview
Project Name |
Peach fruit quality traits-Abbott-1998 |
Project type |
QTL |
Description |
We developed a second generation linkage genetic map for F2 peach Suncrest x Bailey (SCxB) cross segregating for fruit quality and bud frost resistance. Altogether, 228 SSR markers from the reference Prunus genetic map have been tested for polymorphism and 24% of them have turned out to be useful for segregation analysis in this cross. Fifty eight polymorphic SSRs have been mapped onto eight SCxB linkage groups providing anchor points to the general Prunus map. The resulting SCxB map contains more than 200 markers, i.e., SSRs, AFLPs and RFLPs. It covers a total distance of 480 cM and has a high marker density (1-3 cM) in the regions of interest where QTLs for fruit quality have been identified previously. An SSR enhanced SCxB map anchored to the physical map/ EST resource for peach provides a robust framework for comparative QTL analysis and map based cloning across Prunus species. |
