CommentsFamous English cider apple - one of only three English varieties used as a single-variety cider. Classed as bitter sharp. Medium size, round fruit. Crimson to purplish over yellowish orange background color. Strongly astringent aftertaste. Makes a distinctively flavored cider without blending. Vigorous rounded tree. Somewhat hard to grow. Ripens from mid-September to mid-October depending on location. Subject to scab and canker.
