Rosaceae Mapping Consortium

Rosaceae Mapping Consortium was formed to promote scientific interaction among the major research groups working on genetic and physical mapping research of important fruit tree crops in Rosaceae. The first meeting was held on June 22, 2000 at INRA station Toreilles in France.

Work presented by participants focused on peach, apricot, almond, cherry and plum. Each laboratory summarized individual research efforts on genetic linkage mapping of molecular markers and important traits, germplasm resources, genetic crosses, and future interests. Integration of current molecular marker information across species was discussed and the use of the peach a potential physical map model was presented. It was generally agreed that the peach could serve as a model genome for development of physical map resources for the general research community.

A. Abbott presented current research on the development of physical mapping materials and proposed making all available to the Rosaceae research community. Others expressed interest in helping to integrate genetic information onto the developing peach physical map.
